The decision for a second season will depend on the success of the first season, which has only eight episodes. If it does well, there may be a chance, but fans might have to wait a while for any official news.

The Penguin

The Penguin is an American crime drama miniseries created by Lauren LeFranc. It is based on the character Penguin from DC Comics and is a spin-off of the movie The Batman (2022). The show focuses on the Penguin's rise to power in Gotham City's crime scene.

Lauren LeFranc is the showrunner, and the series is produced by DC Studios and Warner Bros. Television. Development started in September 2021, with Colin Farrell set to return as the Penguin. The director of The Batman, Matt Reeves, helped with the writing and selecting the creative team.

Craig Zobel was brought on to direct the first three episodes, along with Helen Shaver. Filming began in March 2023 in New York but was paused in June due to labor disputes in Hollywood. Production restarted in late November and wrapped up in February 2024.

The Penguin Plot

The Penguin is set one week after the events of The Batman (2022). The story follows Oswald "Oz" Cobb, played by Colin Farrell, as he rises to power in Gotham City's criminal underworld. After mob boss Carmine Falcone is murdered, there is chaos in the city, especially in Crown Point, the poorest area, which is struggling to recover from severe flooding caused by the Riddler.

Oswald, who is an underboss for the Falcones, sees this chaos as a chance to gain power. He tries to take advantage of the rivalry between the Falcones and another crime family, the Maronis, led by Salvatore Maroni and his wife, Nadia. Encouraged by his mother, Francis, Oswald makes bold moves to become the new kingpin of Gotham's crime scene.
