Meanwhile, João Pedro's father was imprisoned when the latter was still a child; he spent eight years of his life there due to some crime that he committed. By then, his parents had already separated.

Despite such conditions, João Pedro had devoted his childhood to football. His mother, Flavia, was a good support for him, and she accompanies him to Rio de Janeiro so that he could pursue the youth academy of one of Brazil's most known and prominent football clubs, Fluminense.

Initially, João Pedro played as a defensive midfielder, but in due course, he became an attacking midfielder and later shifted positions, becoming a striker. It was here that he was finally recognized for his abilities and hard work. He scaled up in his ranks and caught the eyes of top clubs, eventually forcing a move to Europe.
