Why is Christian Mccaffrey Not Playing Tonight?
McCaffrey is not playing because he is dealing with a calf and an Achilles injury. The San Francisco 49ers All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey was inactive for the Monday Night Football clash against the New York Jets. The reports suggested that McCaffrey will be ready to play against New York in San Francisco's season opener.
McCaffrey's absense is a massive setback for the 49ers, who will be going against a top-10 Jets defense. He has been the leader of this offense and missing him for a match against the Jets will not be an ideal way to start the game. 49ers general manager John Lynch said, "Christian's doing great," Lynch said on KNBR's Murph & Markus on Friday.
"We got to finish the week here, but he looks like Christian -- and that's a good thing for us. He's looked like Christian out here at practice. We had a bonus practice because of the Monday night [game] and he was there. He was out there yesterday”.
"So, Christian's looking really good. Obviously, we want to see him progress through the week, but we had confidence that Christian would be ready, and he's doing very well. He takes tremendous care of his body and takes so much pride in that. He'll be out there and ready to roll."

Christian Mccaffrey has suffered calf and Achilles injury. Head coach Kyle Shanahan announced that McCaffrey was dealing with a calf injury and that the team would be cautious about his health, leading to Mccaffrey being held out of each preseason game and most of the 49ers' training camp practices.

In the playoffs, McCaffrey recorded 420 all-purpose yards and five touchdowns and the team reached the Super Bowl. McCaffrey has had an excellent partnership with quarterback Brock Purdy and the duo will be integral to San Francisco's success in this season.

The San Francisco 49ers have been a run-first offense under head coach Kyle Shanahan. However, it got to a new level when they made a deal with the Carolina Panthers for Christian McCaffrey ahead of the 2022 NFL trade deadline.
Coming of a 2023 season that saw him win NFL Offensive Player of the Year, he has proven to be a spark in the 49ers’ vaunted running attack. McCaffrey signed a two-year, $38 million extension over the summer before the 2024 season.
