George Negus Career
Before becoming a journalist, George Negus was a high school teacher. He wrote for The Australian and The Australian Financial Review. He also worked as a press secretary for Attorney-General Lionel Murphy during the Whitlam government. While he was a political staffer, he became well-known for leaking information to the press about an upcoming investigation of ASIO's headquarters by Murphy. This event is called the 1973 Murphy raids.
