Aaron Hernandez (November 6, 1989 – April 19, 2017) was an American football player who played as a tight end in the NFL for the New England Patriots for three seasons. He was talented, earning All-American honors in college and winning the 2009 BCS National Championship with the Florida Gators. However, he was drafted in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL draft due to concerns about his size and past issues. Hernandez formed a strong tight-end duo with Rob Gronkowski and played in Super Bowl XLVI.
In 2013, he was arrested for the murder of Odin Lloyd, a semi-professional player. After being found guilty in 2015, he was sentenced to life in prison. Hernandez was also tried for a double homicide but was acquitted. Just days after his acquittal, he died by suicide in prison. After his death, he was diagnosed with chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), raising questions about its impact on his actions.

By 2011, he recorded a career-high 79 receptions and 910 yards, earning a Pro Bowl alternate selection. Hernandez, alongside Rob Gronkowski, formed one of the most effective tight-end duos in NFL history, revolutionizing the position with their dual-threat capabilities. He signed a lucrative five-year contract extension in August 2012, valued at $39.58 million.
