Tito Jackson was born at St. Mary's Mercy Hospital in Gary, Indiana, and was the third of ten children in the Jackson family. His siblings include Michael, Marlon, Jackie, Jermaine, Randy, Rebbie, La Toya, Faloola Tika, and Janet. The family lived in a small two-bedroom house in Gary.
Tito's father, Joseph, worked at a steel mill and played in an R&B band called the Falcons with his brother Luther. His mother, Katherine, is a Jehovah's Witness and played the piano and clarinet. When Tito was ten, he was caught playing his father's guitar after breaking a string. His father was impressed and bought him his own guitar, encouraging Tito, along with his brothers Jackie and Jermaine, to form a singing group.
By 1964, Marlon and Michael also joined the group, which would later become the Jackson 5. The family spent years rehearsing at home, with Katherine, a fan of country-and-western music, singing harmonies with her sons.
