PS5 players are facing a frustrating issue with Sea of Thieves called the 'Kiwibeard error.' This happens when you start the game and it tries to log you in, but after a few seconds, you get an error message saying, “Sea of Thieves is currently down for maintenance. Please try again later. (Kiwibeard).”

The problem seems to only affect PS5 players, as Xbox users haven’t reported it. Fortunately, there's a workaround that can fix this issue.

How to Fix Not Signed in to Sea of Thieves PS5?

To fix this error, do the following,

  1. Close Sea of Thieves on your PS5 and go to Settings.
  2. Scroll down to Saved Data and Game/App Settings.
  3. Choose Saved Data (PS5), then click on Upload or Delete from Console Storage.
  4. Go to the Delete tab, find Sea of Thieves, and choose Delete. This only removes your save file, not the game.
  5. Wait 5-10 minutes and launch the game again.
  6. When it starts, relink your PlayStation and Microsoft accounts.

This should fix the error, but it’s temporary. Some players reported the problem returning in future sessions, so you might need to do this again until the developers fix it.

Sea of Thieves

Sea of Thieves is a 2018 action-adventure game made by Rare and published by Xbox Game Studios. You play as a pirate who goes on missions for different trading companies. It's a multiplayer game where you explore a big open world on a pirate ship from a first-person view. As you sail around, you'll meet other groups of players. Sometimes you can team up with them, and other times you might fight against them.

Sea of Thieves Gameplay

Sea of Thieves is a first-person action-adventure game where players start by choosing a randomly generated pirate character. It’s set in a shared world, meaning players will often encounter other player crews during their adventures.

Ship Operations

  • Players can sail different types of ships depending on their crew size:

    • Solo or Duo: Use a small, fast sloop.
    • Group of Three: Control a brigantine.
    • Group of Four: Control a larger galleon.
  • Crews work together to steer, shoot cannons, navigate, scout from the crow's nest, and board enemy ships.
  • Ships can be customized with different designs for the hull, sails, figurehead, and captain’s quarters, and players can even name their ships.
  • If the ship is attacked and damaged, water will leak in. Players need to fix holes with wood and use buckets to remove water, or the ship will sink.
  • Crews can form alliances with other ships to share rewards, but they can still betray and attack each other.

Gameplay Features

  • If a player dies, crewmates or allies can revive them within a limited time. If not revived, they go to a ghost ship (the Ferry of the Damned) and wait to respawn.
  • There used to be a competitive mode called "Arena" where players fought to collect silver, but it was removed due to low participation.
  • A new safer player-versus-environment (PvE) mode called "Safer Seas" was added in December 2023.

Objectives

Players complete voyages for different trading companies:

  • Gold Hoarders: Solve riddles or follow maps to find treasure chests.
  • Order of Souls: Fight skeletons on various islands.
  • Merchant Alliance: Deliver animals or cargo within a time limit.

There are also two smaller factions:

  • Hunter’s Call: Players bring cooked fish or meat for rewards.
  • Reaper’s Bones: Accepts all kinds of treasures, especially from defeated enemy ships.

Rewards and Progression

  • Players earn gold by selling treasures to trading companies, which can be used to buy cosmetic items like outfits and ship designs.
  • Players can also buy special items and pets with real money in the Pirate Emporium store.
  • Doubloons are earned through special challenges and can be traded for cosmetics, gold, or reputation points with other factions.
  • Reaching rank 50 with three of the six trading companies makes a player a "Pirate Legend," unlocking special items and access to a secret hideout called the Tavern of Legends, plus new quests from a company called Athena’s Fortune.

Sea of Thieves revolves around sailing, completing missions, fighting enemies, and collecting treasure while customizing your pirate and ship.
