The studio behind the series, David Productions, is currently working on other projects, which may delay any potential animation for Steel Ball Run. Fans will need to stay tuned for updates in the future.

Recently, Viz Media has licensed the manga for English release, with the first volume expected to come out in late 2025. Additionally, some chapters were turned into a "vomic" series, where voice actors read over the manga pages as they are displayed.

Steel Ball Run

Steel Ball Run is the seventh story arc of the popular Japanese manga series JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, created by Hirohiko Araki. The story is set in the United States in 1890 and follows Johnny Joestar, a former jockey who is now a paraplegic and wants to walk again.

Alongside him is Gyro Zeppeli, a former executioner trying to help a child on death row. They compete in a cross-country horse race with a grand prize of $50 million but soon find themselves in danger after discovering a hidden agenda behind the race.

The first 23 chapters were published in 2004 in Weekly Shōnen Jump, but when the series moved to Ultra Jump in 2005, it was officially announced as part of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, set in a new continuity. This new setting continues in later arcs like JoJolion and The JoJoLands. The arc consists of 95 chapters compiled into 24 volumes, and it has received high praise for its artwork, characters, and storyline.

Steel Ball Run Plot

Steel Ball Run is set in September 1890 and follows a cross-country horse race in the United States from San Diego to New York City, with a grand prize of fifty million dollars. Johnny Joestar, a paraplegic former jockey, enters the race to learn about a mysterious ability called the Spin from Gyro Zeppeli, a former executioner. Although they start as rivals, Johnny and Gyro become friends while facing various dangers, including assassins and violent competitors.

The race is organized by an oil tycoon named Steven Steel, but it also has a hidden purpose orchestrated by President Funny Valentine. He wants to collect pieces of a 1900-year-old corpse known as the Holy Corpse, believed to be the body of Jesus Christ, to gain immense power. As the race progresses, Johnny and Gyro encounter parts of the Corpse, which enhances Johnny's abilities.

They face off against a competitor named Diego Brando, who possesses one of the Corpse's eyes. While the race continues, Johnny and Gyro struggle against Valentine, who seeks to seize the Corpse pieces. Valentine captures Lucy, Steven's wife, who merges with the Corpse and becomes crucial to Valentine's plans. In a final showdown, Gyro is killed, leading Johnny to master the Spin technique and defeat Valentine.

However, as the race concludes, Johnny faces an alternate version of Diego from a parallel dimension. After a fierce battle, the original Diego is defeated. In the end, the race is won by an unsuspecting racer named Pocoloco. Johnny, having regained his ability to walk, sets off to return Gyro's body to his family and eventually marries Norisuke Higashikata's daughter, leading to the next arc, JoJolion.
