Robert Alda Career

Alan Alda started his career as a singer and dancer in vaudeville after winning a talent contest. He later performed in burlesque shows. In 1949, he toured with Jack Carson and Marion Hutton as part of Carson's radio program.

Alda gained recognition for his roles in films, portraying George Gershwin in Rhapsody in Blue (1945) and a talent agent in Imitation of Life (1959). On Broadway, he was the original Sky Masterson in Guys and Dolls (1950), which earned him a Tony Award. He also starred in What Makes Sammy Run? (1964) and hosted the DuMont TV version of the game show What's Your Bid? in 1953.

In the mid-1950s, Alda played Colonel Bill Morgan, an espionage agent, in the TV series Secret Files USA, which featured stories from American intelligence. He hosted the game show Can Do in 1956 and made guest appearances on MASH* alongside his son. Alda also appeared in an episode of The Feather and Father Gang in 1977.
