He graduated from Temple University but wasn't drafted by any NBA team in 1995. He played for the Adelaide 36ers in Australia, where he was the season MVP, and then in the CBA.
In 1997–98, he signed as a free agent with the Portland Trail Blazers, and later played for the New York Knicks, helping them reach the 1999 Eastern Conference Finals. Over his career, he also played for the Boston Celtics, Chicago Bulls, Toronto Raptors, Los Angeles Clippers, and Seattle SuperSonics, where an injury limited his appearances. He finished his basketball career with the Houston Rockets in 2006.

Jalen is 28 years old. On September 21, 2022, Jalen Brunson got engaged to his longtime girlfriend, Ali Marks, whom he met in high school. He proposed at their high school's gym after being inducted into the school's Athletic Hall of Fame. They got married on July 29, 2023, at The Ritz-Carlton in Chicago. The wedding was moved up from Labor Day weekend to fit Brunson's schedule as he joined the U.S. men's basketball team for the 2023 FIBA World Cup. Brunson is close friends with New York Knicks teammate Josh Hart, with whom he played at Villanova. They co-host a podcast called Roommates. Hart and Donte DiVincenzo, another former Villanova teammate, attended Brunson's wedding, and DiVincenzo was a groomsman.
On June 28, 2024, Brunson appeared on WWE Smackdown at Madison Square Garden with Tyrese Haliburton, a player for the Indiana Pacers.
