Delap was born in Winchester, Hampshire. He is the son of Rory Delap, a former professional footballer who played for the Republic of Ireland national team. His brother, Finn Delap, plays for Burton Albion.

Rory John Delap is a retired football player from England who played as a midfielder. He represented the Republic of Ireland national team 11 times.

Delap began his career at Carlisle United, where he played well enough to join Derby County in the Premier League in 1998. In 2001, he moved to Southampton for a club record fee of £4 million. After five years there, he transferred to Sunderland. He was later loaned to Stoke City in October 2006, but suffered a broken leg in his second match against Sunderland.

Despite this injury, he signed a permanent deal with Stoke in January 2007. Delap became an important player for Stoke, known for his long throw-ins that helped the team get promoted to the Premier League and stay there. After six seasons with Stoke, he played briefly for Barnsley and Burton Albion before retiring in December 2013.

Liam Delap

Liam Rory Delap, born on February 8, 2003, is an English professional football player who plays as a forward for Ipswich Town in the Premier League. He has played for England at various youth levels.

Delap was the top scorer at the 2019 Mercedes-Benz Aegean Tournament for U16 teams in Turkey and later played for the U17 team. He made his debut for England's U18 team on March 29, 2021, in a 2–0 win against Wales. On March 23, 2022, he debuted for the U19 team as a substitute in a 3–1 victory over the Republic of Ireland during the UEFA European Under-19 Championship qualification.

On June 17, 2022, Delap was part of the England U19 squad for the European Championship, where he scored the only goal in their last group match. On July 1, 2022, he played in the final of the tournament, coming off the bench to assist Aaron Ramsey in scoring the final goal as England defeated Israel 3–1 to win the championship.
