What Happened to Daniel Ricciardo?

Daniel Ricciardo is "prepared for this maybe being it" for his Formula 1 career after Singapore GP amid strong speculation the Australian might lose his RB seat to Liam Lawson before the next race.

In an emotional post-race interview, Ricciardo reflected on his career and hinted that his time in F1 might be coming to an end. This race could mark a significant turning point in his Formula 1 journey.

"I also have to acknowledge why I came back after the McLaren stint. I always said I don't want to come back just to be on the grid, I want to try and fight back at the front and get back with Red Bull.

Obviously it didn't come to fruition so then I also have to ask myself the question 'well, then what else can I achieve and what else us there to really go for?”

"I put my best foot forward, let's say the fairytale ending didn't happen but I also have to look back on what it's been. Thirteen or so years and I'm proud."

Daniel Ricciardo Driver Of The Day

Daniel Ricciardo shared an emotional message with his fans after being voted "Driver of the Day" in what might have been his final Formula 1 race. Despite finishing 18th in the Singapore Grand Prix, he appreciated the support from fans, especially given the challenging race where he made an extra pit stop to set the fastest lap. Ricciardo expressed how much the award meant to him, acknowledging it added something special to the moment as he reflected on the possibility of this being his last F1 appearance.

The Singapore Grand Prix saw Ricciardo awarded the 'Driver of the Day' by fans, a tribute he took to heart, he said,

"Typically the driver of the day is not something us drivers look too much into, but today I can say it's something I'm appreciative of. That one today means a little something."

Daniel Ricciardo Fastest Lap

The Red Bull driver made a pit stop near the end of the race to switch to soft tires, which helped him set the fastest lap at 1:34.486. This time beat the previous fastest lap, which was held by Lando Norris at 1:34.925.

On lap 60 of the Singapore Grand Prix, Daniel Ricciardo set the fastest lap of the race, something he hadn't done in a long time. It was the 17th fastest lap of his career, but his first since 2021, when he was teammates with Lando Norris at McLaren. Interestingly, Ricciardo took the fastest lap from race winner Norris, even though it didn’t affect the race results or give Ricciardo any points for himself or Red Bull.

Daniel Ricciardo Age

Daniel Ricciardo is 35 years old born on July 1, 1989. Ricciardo made his Formula One debut at the 2011 British Grand Prix with HRT, thanks to a deal with Red Bull Racing, where he was a test driver for their junior team, Scuderia Toro Rosso. In 2012, he secured a full-time seat with Toro Rosso and raced alongside Jean-Éric Vergne for two seasons. In 2014, Ricciardo moved up to Red Bull, stepping in for the retiring Mark Webber and teaming up with four-time World Champion Sebastian Vettel.

In his first season with Red Bull, powered by Renault, Ricciardo finished third in the championship and earned his first career win at the Canadian Grand Prix, along with two more victories in Hungary and Belgium. After a winless 2015 season, he returned to the top step of the podium at the 2016 Malaysian Grand Prix and finished third in the championship again in Mexico. He also won races for Red Bull at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in 2017 and at the Chinese and Monaco Grands Prix in 2018.

Why is Daniel Ricciardo Leaving F1?

After the race, McLaren's boss, Stella, described Ricciardo’s race, where he didn’t earn any points, as “peculiar.” Some F1 fans might think there’s something strange about how Red Bull handled things. When Ricciardo pitted with just three laps to go, sitting in 18th place, and changed to soft tires, it felt like a farewell for a driver who is both complicated and well-liked.

Is Daniel Ricciardo Retiring?

Daniel Ricciardo stated he’s “at peace” with his likely exit from Formula One and hinted at retirement from the sport, as Red Bull plans to drop him from their program after the 2024 Singapore GP. The Australian driver qualified 16th and finished last among the running cars at the Marina Bay Circuit. However, he did secure the fastest lap on Sunday, September 22, in what may be his final race after 13 years in F1. Reports suggest that the world champions want to test Liam Lawson for the rest of the season alongside Yuki Tsunoda, leaving no room for the 35-year-old Ricciardo, especially since Sergio Perez has retained his seat.
