Her mother, Ina Louise, worked as a publicity writer for movie studios, and her father, Joseph Thomas Burnett, managed a movie theater. Her grandparents on her mother’s side were William Henry Creighton and Mabel Eudora "Mae" Jones.
After her parents divorced in the late 1930s, both moved to Hollywood separately. Carol went to live with her grandmother in a small one-room apartment near her mother in a poor part of Hollywood. They lived in a boarding house along with Carol’s younger half-sister, Chrissie.
Carol Burnett Marriages
Carol Burnett married her college sweetheart, Don Saroyan, on December 15, 1955, but they divorced in 1962.
On May 4, 1963, she married television producer Joe Hamilton. Together, they had three daughters: Carrie, Jody, and Erin. Their marriage ended in 1984, partly due to the challenges of dealing with their daughter Carrie's drug problems. Joe Hamilton passed away in 1991.
On November 24, 2001, Burnett married drummer Brian Miller, who is 23 years younger than her.
