Astro Bot
Astro Bot is a platform game released in 2024 for the PlayStation 5. It was created by Team Asobi and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. This game is part of the Astro Bot series and follows up on the popular Astro's Playroom, which came out in 2020. The release of Astro Bot was a special way to celebrate PlayStation's 30th anniversary.
In this new adventure, players guide the lovable robot character, Astro Bot, through exciting levels filled with challenges. Using the PlayStation 5's DualSense controller, Astro can jump, hover, punch, and spin his way through different worlds. The game has been praised by critics, who loved its creative design and fun gameplay.
Astro Bot Plot
In Astro Bot, Astro and his crew are flying their starship, which looks like a PlayStation 5, when a green alien named Space Bully Nebulax attacks them, steals their CPU, and causes the ship to explode. The crew gets stranded on different planets, and Astro crash-lands on a desert planet. Using a smaller ship called the Dual Speeder, Astro sets off to rescue his crew and recover the missing parts of the mothership.
Astro battles bosses across different galaxies, retrieving the ship's lost pieces. After fixing the mothership and reuniting most of his crew, Astro faces Nebulax again in a final battle. Although Astro defeats Nebulax and saves the CPU, Nebulax creates a black hole and tries to take Astro with him. Astro sacrifices himself but is later revived by his crew using replacement parts. Astro celebrates with his team and continues his space adventures.
Astro Bot Gameplay
In Astro Bot, you control a small robot named Astro through 3D platforming levels using the PlayStation 5’s DualSense controller. Astro can jump, hover, punch, spin-attack, and even swim underwater, using the same abilities as in previous games. The game has 80 levels spread across six galaxies and 50 planets, with different difficulty settings: Easy, Normal, and Hard.
You travel between levels using a spaceship called the Dual Speeder, which you control by tilting the DualSense controller. In each level, Astro rescues Bots, with a total of 305 to find, including special collectible Bots inspired by PlayStation characters.
Astro also has 15 new abilities to help navigate the game and defeat bosses. Players can collect coins, use them to buy items for the Bots, and unlock a helper that finds missed Bots or puzzle pieces. The game includes accessibility features and is about four times longer than Astro’s Playroom. There are no microtransactions.
