GTA Online Server Down

As of  Today September 21, 2024, many players are having trouble with GTA Online servers around the world. They are seeing error messages like “Rockstar Games online services are unavailable” or “files needed to play GTA Online could not be downloaded.” It seems the servers are facing problems due to ongoing DDoS attacks.

These attacks are likely from a group against the new BattlEye anti-cheat system. Right now, players can't fix the issues themselves, but they should wait for Rockstar Games to resolve the problem. In the meantime, there are a few steps players can take to try and restore their connection to the game.

Online Server Status

Before trying to fix any problems, it’s a good idea to check if the GTA Online servers or Rockstar services are working. You can find out their status by using an official link that shows if the servers are up and running. This will help you know if the issue is on your side or if the servers are down for everyone.

  1. Check Your Internet: Make sure your internet connection is working properly.
  2. Change NAT Type: If you use a firewall or router, access its settings and change the NAT type.
  3. Open Network Ports: Ensure these ports are open:

    • Port 61455 (UDP)

    • Click on Advanced Network Settings and choose Change Adaptor.
    • Right-click on your connection (Ethernet or Wi-Fi) and select Properties.
    • Turn on IPv4/TCP if it’s off.
    • Select "Use the following DNS" and enter:

      • Preferred DNS: 8.8.8.8
      • Alternate DNS: 8.8.4.4
    • Click Validate Settings and then OK.
  5. Check TCP/IPv6: Make sure TCP/IPv6 is on:

    • Click Validate Settings and then OK.
  6. Reset Internet Connection: Unplug your network adaptor or router for about 10 minutes, then plug it back in.

When will the GTA servers be online again?

Players should wait for Rockstar Games to fix the server problems before they can play again. This could take a while because of possible DDoS attacks that are affecting the servers. So, even though everyone hopes the servers will be back up soon, it might take some time to sort everything out.
