Carol Burnett Career
Carol Burnett began her career in San Antonio before moving to Hollywood, where she attended Hollywood High School and studied theater at UCLA. She first gained attention on Broadway in 1959 with a Tony Award nomination for Once Upon a Mattress. Her television career took off with regular appearances on The Garry Moore Show, earning her an Emmy Award in 1962. In 1963, she starred as Calamity Jane in a Dallas State Fair Musicals production and had her television special debut.
She moved back to Los Angeles and starred in The Carol Burnett Show on CBS from 1967 to 1978. This variety show, rooted in vaudeville, featured a mix of comedy sketches, song, and dance, including film parodies and character pieces. Burnett created many memorable characters on the show, which earned her and the show numerous Emmy and Golden Globe Awards. Throughout and after the show’s run, she continued to appear in various television and film projects.
Carol Burnett's film career includes roles in Pete 'n' Tillie (1972), Annie (1982), and Horton Hears a Who! (2008).
