What Happened to Christina Murphy Car?
Christina Murphy's car was recovered from the Kern River near Lake Isabella on Saturday, September 14. The recovery took place after the water levels in the river had dropped sufficiently to make the operation safer.
The Kern County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) had been aware of the submerged vehicle since July 23, but high water levels initially made it too dangerous to retrieve. By September 10, search and rescue teams had assessed the scene but deemed the conditions unsafe. The water flow on that day was approximately 860 cubic feet per second (CFS).
On the day of the recovery, the flow in the river had decreased to about 680 CFS, which allowed the teams to successfully pull the vehicle out of the water. Although the vehicle was confirmed to belong to Christina Murphy, no occupants were found in it. The recovery was facilitated by a decrease in water levels and was carried out with great care by local volunteers from the Kern Valley Search and Rescue Team.
