Brook Cecilia Cheuvront, a 20-year-old American student from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, was reported missing while hiking in Cape Town, South Africa. She went hiking on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Devil's Peak, part of Table Mountain National Park. After leaving her accommodation around noon, her friends lost contact with her, and a tracking app showed no updates.
A search was launched that evening by SANParks rangers and Wilderness Search and Rescue, but it was called off when it got dark. The next day, the search resumed with the help of aerial support. Unfortunately, Brook's body was found on Sunday afternoon, September 22, 2024, on the mountain's slopes.
