There’s a baby contest going around on social media called "Baby of the Year." People are unsure if it's real or a scam. The contest is being promoted as a charity fundraiser by actress Jessica Alba, and they are looking for America's cutest baby. The winner is supposed to get a $25,000 cash prize and a spot in a Good Housekeeping magazine ad.

What Happened to Baby of the Year Contest
On September 18, Facebook user Sariah Gomez posted about the "Baby of the Year" contest to warn others. She shared screenshots showing that some people think the contest, promoted by Jessica Alba, might be connected to trafficking.
One screenshot said a mother entered her daughter but became concerned after reading other mothers’ comments about the contest being a scam. She took down her daughter's pictures and changed her account picture to black until it could be removed, but was confused why her daughter was still getting votes.
Meanwhile, 6abc News reported that some people claimed the contest was a scam, saying they saw strange charges on their credit cards after voting. Despite the rumors, the contest promoted by Jessica Alba is real and is organized by a company called Colossal.

Jessica Alba said, "Baby2Baby is very important to me, so I'm partnering with Colossal to start a competition that will help raise millions of dollars."
The contest is being managed by Colossal, and while Good Housekeeping isn’t a sponsor, they mentioned that "The winner will appear in an advertisement" in their magazine.
You can vote for free once a day or pay to vote more. For every dollar you donate to Baby2Baby, you get one extra vote.
Alba also said, "In the past thirteen years, Baby2Baby has given out over $450 million worth of essential items."

Baby2Baby is a real charity that helps children, and it has a good rating from Charity Navigator, with a score of 96% for its financial practices and community impact. Actress Jessica Alba is on its board.
However, the contest has a lot of rules. One important rule says that by entering the contest, parents allow Colossal to use the photos and information they submit. Parents should be careful about sharing photos or videos of their children online because there’s a risk of scammers or identity thieves using those images.
Colossal, the company behind the contest, plans to raise a lot of money for Baby2Baby. It has raised over $19 million in the last two years for other charities, like the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Colossal helps these charities with fundraising so they can focus on their main work.
