Aaron Jones Injury Update

On Wednesday, October 16, head coach Kevin O'Connell mentioned that running back Aaron Jones might be able to play in Week 7. He also said that trading for Cam Akers doesn’t affect the Vikings' running back situation. Here is Aaron Jones's injury update in detail.

O'Connell said, "Aaron is going to progress throughout the week and hopefully has a chance to go on Sunday." He revealed, "Ty Chandler and Myles Gaskin and Cam will work behind [him]."

The Vikings will release their first practice report for Week 7 later on October 16, where Jones will be listed as a full participant, limited, or not practicing. If he practices, even in a limited way, it’s a good sign for his chances to play. However, if he doesn’t practice at all, it would suggest he might not play.

There’s no official injury update yet, but O'Connell did confirm that Jones didn’t suffer a serious injury after their 23-17 win over the Jets in London

O'Connell said, "Aaron Jones continues to be evaluated, but all the early information that we've gotten so far, it looks like we've avoided a long-term injury, but I would classify him as really week to week at this point."

He continued, He'll get treatment throughout this week, and I'll give you guys an update where he's at next week, as we hopefully work him back into practice."

Jones was at a light practice on October 14, according to ESPN's Kevin Seifert.

What Happened to Aaron Jones?

Minnesota fans are wondering if their star running back, Aaron Jones, will play in the upcoming game. He got a hip injury during their Week 5 win over the New York Jets in London. Jones only played 16 snaps before leaving the game and didn't return.

Coach Kevin O'Connell said before their break that Jones was "week-to-week," meaning they were unsure how long he'd be out, but there was hope he might come back after the break. However, since the Vikings traded for another running back, Cam Akers, on October 15, many now think Jones could be out longer than expected.

Who is Aaron Jones?

Aaron Jones Contract

Jones is joining the Vikings after agreeing to a one-year deal worth $7 million, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

He is taking a pay cut from the $12 million he would have received from the Packers in 2024. This happened because his performance dropped due to injuries. In 2023, he only played 11 games because of hamstring and knee issues.

Even with the injuries, Jones is still considered one of the better running backs. After recovering, he had five straight games with over 100 yards, helping the Packers reach the playoffs.

This performance convinced the Vikings to sign him, making him one of the top-paid running backs in the NFL, with his $7 million salary ranking him ninth in the league.
